Economic shocks happen—that will never change and is indeed “like the weather.” But what determines how much human suffering these shocks leave in their wake is driven by social and political choices about how the economy is managed.

I feels like it shouldn’t be this hard to get a job. It feels like jobs don’t last. It feels like normal jobs used to be enough to afford a house. All of these were feelings, I didn’t have any data to confirm them.
